As seen on ITVs Daybreak & in various regional and national newspapers.
A double page spread from a children's book I illustrated called Pirates Don't Play Cricket. The book is written by former New Zealand test cricketer Iain O'Brien and first time author Rowan Gibson and will be available from May 10th 2013.
The full colour picture book features 16 spreads like this, and is one of the most detailed/complicated books I've worked on. Loads of fun to illustrate as the full spreads allowed me to hide away lots of interesting and funny bits and pieces in each illustration. There are a host of famous cricket stars in there, seagulls in cricket whites, a few cats hidden away (as there often are in my books) and plenty for the reader to find along the way.
Each of the characters in the book is based loosely on a real cricketer, either from the current game or from the past. Coming up with a host of pirates (both good and bad) was a lot of fun!
Pirates Don't Play Cricket - May 10th 2013
ISBN: 978-1-907746-123
A fantastically funny, sporty and swashbuckling picture book for children. Avast me hearties, thar be pirates playing cricket!
A young boy and girl, Dan & Priya are walking together along a cliff top near a beautiful sunny beach when they spot a huge pirate ship moored on the sand below.
Much to Dan and Priya’s surprise, besides the ship, there is a group of rag-tag pirates.... playing a game of cricket.
Dan and Priya are surprised again when the pirates turn out to be really rather nice. They’re soon playing cricket together and enjoying a game on the beach. That is until a ship full of snarling, cutlass waving pirates appear on the horizon, and they’re looking for a fight.
The friendly band of pirates must use their sporting skills and teamwork to fight off the nasty, snarling enemy pirates.

A poster for the book, Gorgeous George & The ZigZag Zit-Faced Zombies by Stuart Reid. this is the second book by Stuart that I've illustrated (the first being Gorgeous George & the Giant Geriatric Generator). It was a lot of fun working on this one... around 25 illustrations in total for the book, with them getting gradually darker and more 'zombified' as the book goes on. A good chance to combine my two big passions, illustrating children's books and classic zombie films!
this is one of a number of promotional posters I designed and illustrated for the book, for use in print, on the web and as part of POS displays in book stores.
You can check out more on the book, which is due for release January 2013, on the my Little Big Town website.....

This is one of a number of character cards I illustrated to go along with the Ants! comic book and board game from Twisted Winds. The character cards feature individual members of the Ants! colony. Each card began as a rough pencil sketch. All inking and colour was then added in Photoshop.
The board game introduced the characters but for a much younger audience. When it came to illustrating the character cards we were able to create much more rounded characters, and in some of the scenes more action. They were a lot of fun to put together!
